( Personality ) :
Let’s be perfectly honest from the get-go here. Simon Petrikov is a huge dork. He’s a brilliant, caring man but he’s an enormous dork and there’s no way getting around it. He reenacts episodes of “Cheers” for a seven year old who has no idea what it is, makes up goofy songs to entertain Marceline, originally put on the crown to make his fiancée laugh- 100% purebred dork.

But push aside a bit of the dork and you’ll find a very caring, tragic man underneath. Since coming in contact with the crown Simon has gradually lost everything he held dear. His fiancée Betty, his job as an antiquarian, the apocalypse happened and he loses himself when he puts on the crown. He wandered alone in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. He was and still is to an extent a very lonely man, something that carried on when he eventually did lose himself completely to the voices and power of the crown. Then he found a lost little girl named Marceline.

Simon is very protective and paternal when it comes to Marceline. He unabashedly loves her as a father would love his daughter. He’s patient, doting and warm toward her at just about every turn. Even when he gets frustrated he tells her to cover her ears before he goes into a tirade of (children’s television-friendly) cursing and kicking a truck.

Simon would do just about anything to keep her safe. This is shown multiple times in “Simon and Marcy”. He instantly becomes concerned when she starts coughing, even more so when he realizes she has a fever that’s gradually getting worse. This is what leads to his borderline obsessive search for chicken soup for her in the ruins of society. He has a terrible self-sacrificing streak, choosing Marceline over his own safety. Twice he chooses to risk his sanity by putting on the crown to protect her.


( Strengths/Weaknesses ) :
+ He acquires wicked awesome ice powers when he wears his magical crown.
+ Ice powers include flying, creating ice and snow and freezing things like deer or nuclear missiles.
+ Considering his profession before the Mushroom War, it’s safe to assume Simon has a vast knowledge of antiquities.
-He turns into a weirdo who makes awful jokes when he puts on his magical crown (so, Ice King).
-He’ll go to dangerous lengths to protect those he cares about. Lengths like putting on a magical crown that will drive him insane.
-Not remembering things he says or does under the influence of the crown.
-Basically the fact he goes insane when he puts on the crown.

He’s a dorky old man who will probably adopt every stray child in the bubble and teach them the theme song from ‘Cheers’.
